Sassy Lashes

As a certified lash technician, Amy has started to do lashes for friends and family.  Her lash company is called Sassy Lashes.  I watched her do Misha's lashes and she was meticulous.

Fall Break in Utah - 3

We planned to meet up with my brothers, Shane and Mitch, and my Dad at the football game later in the evening so for the morning, we started first at Gardner Village. It was so incredibly busy, even as it had just opened, but they had Halloween activities for big and small witches and the place was over run. Having been here and at The Silos in Waco, Texas, Chip and Joanna Gaines could take a tip or two on how to create more of a destination point.

We met up with some old college friends—Kevin and Tami Fenn—for the afternoon at Cornbelly’s at Thanksgiving Point. Talk about crowded. The place was teeming with people. Liz also joined us for the afternoon. The corn maze was our first stop. The girls called us after a short time pronouncing themselves the winners over the adults, but there might have been just a little bit of cheating (ahem Amy) going on. The adults couldn’t get past checkpoint 4 and finally decided to find a nice place to sit and chat for the afternoon.

Most of the afternoon was beautiful and sunny, but around 4 pm, the wind started to pick up and chill us all. I will admit, I was not exactly looking forward to the football game. It started at 8:15 pm and was going to be so cold.

We grabbed all of our cold weather gear and drove to Orem. The girls drove with Liz who would hang out with us for dinner and then return Misha to the hotel before heading back to Perry, Utah.  To avoid all of the crazy traffic, we parked on the west side of I-15 by the UVU campus and rode the bus. 

We met up with all of the girls, including Liz, at Rubio's for dinner and then ran to catch the bus to the stadium while Misha and Liz drove back to Lehi.  We were pretty early and found our seats without too much difficulty.

When we had my brother purchase tickets for us to attend the BYU Homecoming game against Hawaii, Kristen was quick to say she would pass, however, a couple of weeks ago, Kristen really got hooked on football as Chris explained the game to her.  They had been watching the games together ever since.  So, I was willing to give up my ticket so Kristen could go.  I was even more willing when I found out the game didn't start until late and would be cold.  That is, until Misha also realized that the game was late and going to be cold.  She was more than happy to have me go instead.  The deal to trade was that she would start to work on her FAFSA application.  I think she did a little bit of it.

So we bundled up in layers of jackets, hats, gloves, and activated our hand warmers.  What kept us mostly warm though were the blankets that Mitch brought for us to sit on and put on our laps.  Once they left in the 4th quarter.  I started shivering.  Much to Chris' dismay, we left with about 7 minutes in the quarter.  BYU scored one more touchdown while we waited on the bus to take us back to our car.  Brrrrr.  So grateful that the bus was warm.

Fall Break in Utah - 2

Amy wasn’t arriving until later in the afternoon on Friday, so we headed back to Provo to hang out at BYU. We stopped first in the bookstore where Misha and Chris found some BYU swag and then toured a few other buildings on campus. We had a quick lunch out on the patio, listening to some young and immature BYU students chat, we drove back to Lehi to meet up with Amy at the hotel.

Amy was able to get a room key from the front desk to drop off her stuff and as we pushed the elevator button to go upstairs, out she jumped. So good to hug her. We picked up some dress clothes for later in the evening and were off to Park City.

We had been to the outlets in Park City before, but we had never really explored the Main Street. Like anywhere else in the area, the growth was just phenomenal. Everywhere we went in Utah there was road construction, new home developments, new business growth, hotels, restaurants.  Pretty soon they are going to run out of places to build.

We had another quick dinner in Draper, this time at Noodles and Co., before driving up to the Draper temple to do baptisms. We had to do a quick change in the parking lot.  Some of us made it a little harder than necessary.

Susan and Melissa and my parents met us at the temple. Such a neat experience together as a family.

Fall Break in Utah - 1

We had originally planned to visit my parents in Canada over our Fall Break, but my brothers wanted to have my parents come to Utah to celebrate my dad’s 80th birthday and my mom’s 77th. We changed our flight plans and headed to Utah instead. Chris was returning from a quick trip to Oakland and would meet us at the airport.  Misha swung by the middle school to pick up Kristen and then headed home to finish up packing. They skipped their lunch break and asked if we could stop at Wendy’s on our way to the airport. We left a lot earlier than needed, especially since we were parking in the West Economy lot. We took our time once arriving at the airport, hoping to find a parking spot closer to the terminal, but no such luck.

I usually bring a toiletry bag, but this time consolidated everything in to my carry on so that we didn’t have to check anything. That helped to skip the Southwest check-in line; the line for security was long enough.

We found our gate and settled in to wait for Chris to arrive and then for our flight at 2:45 pm. As we were waiting to board, Misha passed by me and stuck out her tongue. The people around me joked that she wouldn’t likely be saving me a seat. I responded, “Funny thing, I don’t even know her!” They all laughed.  The flight was uneventful except for the lady sitting next to us that just wreaked of garlic.  Not my favorite smell on someone!

We picked up our rental car in Salt Lake City and proceeded toward Lehi to our hotel to check in and drop off bags. The Hilton Garden Inn at Lehi was in a brand new location and all the roads around it were not fully functioning. We weren’t sure we were even going to find it our way to the hotel entrance!

We did arrive and found that our room with its two beds would not allow Amy to bunk with us when she arrived on Friday afternoon. We were in a quandary since my brother’s had no room at their places and finally ended up just getting another room to share. While it was an extra expense, it was nice to have the girls sharing a space and Chris and I in our own space.

We quickly headed off toward Provo for an evening at the BYU Homecoming Spectacular, stopping for a quick dinner at Costa Vida. My parents were joining us, but since we only had a sedan, Mitch had to drop them off at the Marriott Center. We all enjoyed the performance with Colbie Caillat and David Archuleta.

General Conference in Utah

Amy and Liz were able to attend the Saturday evening Women's Conference session as well as the Sunday morning session of General Conference.  She was thrilled with how close she and Liz were able to sit in both sessions.  There may or may not have been a little snoozing after having to get up so early to get to Salt Lake from Liz's house, but Amy enjoyed being able to attend both sessions.

Homecoming 2018

Misha has a fun group of friends that she goes with the school dances.  Since the girls made dinner for the Prom last year, the guys made the dinner this year.

After getting beautiful, the kids walked over to a nearby park where parents also converged for pictures.  It was late with the sun going down and overcast.  Pictures weren't that awesome, but the kids had fun.

Misha borrowed her friend Mikey's hat.  I think she would have liked to keep it for the whole evening.  They just happened to match too.

Foggy Morning

Every once in a while it is awesome to have a beautiful foggy morning.  I took the opportunity to take some pictures.

New Roof

Well, the fun from the hail continues on.  I have listened to roofers banging around and hammering non-stop on my roof for three days.  Fortunately I was gone for part of Wednesday, but still, I was ready for them to be done.

Before Chris left for Europe he said that the roofers would be coming on Tuesday and Wednesday.  I wasn't even thinking about them when I came upstairs from exercising and could hear all these strange sounds upstairs.  I knew Misha was home on her morning off block.  I climbed to the second floor thinking, "Misha, what the heck!"  She was in the shower, and yet the crazy sounds continued on.  It was 7 am and I remembered the roofers were coming.

There is still some more to be done as the gutters need to be installed, but at least the hammering is now done today.

Eyelash Certification

Amy spent the weekend in Utah getting her Eyelash Certification.  She loves all things beauty and makeup and once she finishes her Associate Degree in Business at BYU-I, she plans to attend Aesthetician school to become fully licensed.  For now, she is excited to be licensed as an Eyelash Technician.

Liz was her first client once Amy left the certification class and she had another girl later this week.  Yay for a little extra income and a fun skill.

Roommate FHE

Since Amy's ward at BYU-I is still being organized, Amy and her roommates headed to Idaho Falls for dinner and some fun for their own FHE on Monday night.  I love that Amy has roommates that are great friends as well.

So in the front left corner is Brooklyn.  Behind her is Sierrah, then going forward is Alexa, Amy, Alyssa, and Kaylee (Amy shares a room with her) in the front right corner.

Julie's Baby

She was a week overdue almost, but Julie finally had her baby!  We are so excited to meet Kelsey Anne Ransom in a couple of weeks.  Kelsey just squeaked in to September by fifteen minutes.  "Baby girl Ransom was born at 11:44 last night via C-section after a rough labor. But she and I are doing well today. 6 lbs 8 oz 19 3/4 inches."  Welcome to the world Kelsey!
