An Amazing Opportunity for Amy

Chris set up an amazing opportunity for Amy. He got permission to bring her to Logic Monitor's Company Kick Off—CKO—in Austin. Not only that, he set up interviews for Amy with a lot of the women at LM that Chris works with on a daily basis as well as with some upper level management, including Chris' boss. Not job interviews, but interviews where Amy could ask questions, questions specifically related to women in sales.

To say that Amy was nervous is an understatement. She probably worried herself sick in the weeks and days before the conference.

Her days during the conference were jam-packed with meetings back to back all day long. That's pretty intense.

But, she had a fantastic experience. She learned a lot, she made a lot of connections, and there might even be a job opportunity in the future for her. A job was not the intent necessarily. It was to help Amy to see her potential and to decide if this is a path moving forward that interests her.

Chris flew to Austin on Tuesday morning for CKO. Amy arrived later in the evening.

Amy's first meeting on Wednesday morning was with Marc D. He is one of Chris' good friends from a previous company that Chris recommended for a position at LM. Marc just barely left for another job opportunity, but he has committed to being a mentor to Amy.

A Board Room reserved for Amy's meetings.

Dinner with a LM co-worker from the UK.

Hanging out together.

Amy is excitedly looking at potential jobs at LM as well as other companies in Utah.

Misha's Entry into an Art Contest

Misha submitted an entry into an art contest held by the magazine, "Denver Westward" with the theme 2024. The submission had to include a cow.

Misha used one of her recent art projects and added a cow cloud.

An Art Commission for Misha

Misha's new position in the marketing department is a lot of fun for her. Not only that, her boss has commissioned Misha and another student, Jade (Misha went with a group of friends to stay at Jade's parent's home in Hawaii last summer).

They will need to create the mural, work up a budget, and then will have two weeks in May to paint. Kind of exciting for the opportunities that open up when you least expect them

Misha's Art Class and Oreos

In one of Misha's art classes, they were tasked with creating an art piece using some kind of food. Misha chose Oreos.

Kristen's Mission Email - Week 32

Happy Australia Day! Did we sing the Australian anthem in sacrament? Yes we did.

This week went by so fast! And I forgot to journal for like half of it, so here's what I can remember.
  • Interviews with Pres. Standley (I'm fine???)
  • Exchanges with my bestie
  • Exchanges with my other bestie
  • Friends update
We got to have our transfer interviews with President this week which is always super fun because we
a) get personal counsel
b) find out the tea (details) about transfers (usually)
c) get to yap on the floor with the district while we wait.

This interview was particularly interesting to me because it was not interesting at all. I'm usually distraught and yapping and get some insight into what next transfer might look like, but I guess this transfer I'm just fine?? Like he asked about concerns and such, and I didn't have much to bring up. He says I look so much happier now. Yay!

Our District

I love living with the STLs because we can go on as many impromptu exchanges as we like. One of those, I got to go with Sister Woodbury! #passengerprincess #ilovecarareas.

We ate donuts shaped like tiny people, had everyone and their dog cancel on us, and had a yap-a-thon the whole day.

A few days later, I went on exchanges with Sister 'Ulukau! We went to my area, met with some of our most progressing friends, and rotted on the floor of our living room during our studies and meals, my favorite expression of quality time.

We somehow ended up painting our Book of Mormons too. Mine isn't quite done yet, but I'll attach a picture next week.

As far as "friends" go, we have a few really awesome progressing people! Besides that though...we're working on it!!

We have three friends on date, Princess (I've talked about her a lot), Rimpi, and Mark. They're all progressing (at different paces for sure) and we're super excited for them!

We also had a lady show up to church yesterday who's super elect named Kathleen (she's feeding us Peruvian food next week) and a man named Mario who is SO open and silly (I fixed the Bluetooth on his TV and we're besties now).

I love our friends and wanted to let you know how some of them are going! Getting to help them come closer to Christ is worth the whole 18 months I spend serving.

We've been reading the Book of Mormon in 90 days as a mission, highlighting specifically the Savior's name and the Atonement of Jesus Christ. This makes my ability to testify that He is on EVERY SINGLE PAGE stronger. It really is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. If you don't get the chance to read the Book of Mormon everyday, get the widget on your phone from Gospel Library that'll put a new verse on your screen each day. There is power in that book.

I love you all so much and hope that this week is awesome and filled with miracles.

Let me know what you've been up to, I'd love to hear.

Birthday Card from Kristen

Before Kristen left on her mission, she created birthday, Mother's Day, and Father's Day cards to last for a year and a half for the whole family. We all look forward excitedly to opening up birthday greetings from Kristen.

This is my card from January 2025.

This Momma Had a Birthday

While probably not one of my most exciting birthdays (especially not like last year when Chris and I went snowmobiling), the day was pretty quiet.

Chris was in Tennessee and busy most of the day. I heard from ALL of my girls and my brother, Brad, was kind enough to call. I got lots of texts and well wishes on Facebook.

Chris left his work trip early so he could make it home for part of my birthday. He arrived home around 8:30 pm.

Here's to new adventures and experiences in 2025. And to a house that sells soon. That's my birthday wish.

Misha's Marketing Work

As you may remember, Misha is splitting her time between two campus jobs: student manager in the facilities department of the CU Denver Recreation Center and marketing student in the market department of the CU Denver Recreation Center. Can you guess which job she loves more?

She has been working on flyers that are put around the building to announce upcoming fitness programs, registration deadlines, etc.

She was excited to see her first flyer posted.

Misha's First Last Day of College

Misha celebrated her first very last day of college today. And yes, I'm the crazy mom who says, "Take a picture!"

Misha's first day as a college student (at BYU)

Misha's first last day as a college student (at UC Denver)

She is excited along with a little bit nervous about what comes next!

When in Australia...

When in Australia, you buy yourself an authentic pair of Ugg slippers. For those that don't know, Ugg, they make sheepskin footwear and originated in Australia.

"Frank Mortel claims that he named his company's sheepskin boots 'ugg boots' in 1958 after his wife commented that the first pair he made were 'ugly.'" Wikipedia

Kristen's Mission Email - Week 31

Hello!

We had a great week here in Oz!

Let's get into the yapping:
  • Zone conference!!
  • Teaching with a bird
  • Making music for Facebook
  • Exchanges/green day with Sis 'Ulukau
We had an awesome zone conference this week! I always love getting to hear from President Standley because he's always spitting straight revelation. We talked about using the Book of Mormon more powerfully in our teaching which is interestingly exactly what we talked about in district council this week. Spirit >> coincidences

I had my ability to teach amidst distractions put to the test this week. Our friend, Sarah, has a rainbow lorikeet. Mid lesson, this bird flies out of her hands onto my head. But I kept going because the Spirit doesn't wait for birds to get out of our hair. We got a pic of it because no one would've believed us otherwise.

Sister Coleman is always singing (does that remind you of anyone😗😏?) and so we put our talents together and made a video of us playing/singing "It Is Well With My Soul" on the ukulele. The video got about 1500 views on Facebook so I'm basically famous. And slay (slang definition: someone who has done exceptionally well).

I'm glad I can use my talents, but President saw it and said we should sing every week in church now....funny.

I FINALLY got to go on exchanges with my fav, Sister 'Ulukau. We went into my area, which happened to be the day where we had back to back lessons all day long. I was literally losing sleep over this day because I didn't know how we would get it all done. But we had what we call a "green day", which basically means everything planned happened! We saw everyone we intended to see!

It was on this day that we had the greatest lesson to date with my girl Princess (she is getting baptized Feb 23, pray for her!), met with some progressing friends, found a long lost member, and gave out multiple copies of the Book of Mormon. It was a W (win) day and I felt the Spirit testify so strongly through me, my companion, our members, and just the entirety of things working out. I have always been a worrier.

For the day above, which I was so stressed about beforehand, I had a spiritual epiphany. There was someone who wanted me to be stressed about an already planned, "meant to be good" type of day. The adversary filled me with doubt and worry early in the morning.

But why? For the same reason he tempted Jesus in Matthew 4, seized Joseph in the sacred Grove, and ranted to Moses after facing God. We feel the most opposition and negativity when the adversary knows we have just done or are about to do something wonderful. That day was wonderful.

So when we feel the most opposition, remember first off who wants you to feel all the negativity and worry and doubt. And second, think about what amazing thing God has in store for you to do.

Reminder:

I love you all! Have a great week!

Chris Subbing for Sunday School

Chris was asked to sub as the Sunday School teacher today. He was awesome and you could just tell that he was in his element. I hope that he receives a teaching calling in our new ward in Monument.

Amy's Migraine

Amy has been suffering from a migraine headache for a couple of days now. It started on Thursday and unfortunately she had to work most of the day since someone else had already called out sick. Her boss finally let her go home around 3:00 pm.

Amy found someone to work for her on Friday, she didn't have to work Saturday or Sunday, and Monday is a holiday.

She heated up her rice warmer and wrapped it around her head which brought a little bit of comfort.

She has tried Excedrin and Excedrin Migraine but nothing seems to help. Here's hoping she feels better soon. She tried to get an appointment with her doctor for Monday, but hasn't heard back yet to know if an appointment is available.

A Letter to Kristen

Chris and I mentioned to our friend, Ben Newson, that Kristen's mission was not always sunshine and roses for her, and that she had days where she struggled. He shared with us some of his experiences, and we, in turn, asked if he would mind sharing them with Kristen.

This is his thoughtful and kind response:

Sister Kline!

I hope this email finds you working with all your heart, might, mind, and strength! What a blessing and privilege to be in the service of the Lord! I heard you finally made it to Australia! Glad that worked out.

It was amazing to me on my mission to see a different part of the world and how differently people lived in other parts of the world. It was both fun and humbling to see this difference from my own home in Colorado.

I wanted to share a story and experience from my mission that has helped me. Hopefully it helps you. Strap in this is a long email ;)

First the story...

There once was a man who was asleep one night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light and the Savior appeared to him. The Lord told him He had a work for him to do and showed him a large rock explaining that he was to push against the rock with all his might.

This the man did, and for many days, he toiled from sunup to sundown; his shoulder set squarely against the cold massive surface of the rock, pushing with all his might.

Each night the man returned to his cabin sore and worn out, feeling his whole day had been spent in vain. Seeing that the man showed signs of discouragement, Satan decided to enter the picture–placing thoughts in the man’s mind, such as “Why kill yourself over this? You’re never going to move it!” or “Boy, you’ve been at it a long time and you haven’t even scratched the surface!” etc., giving the man the impression that the task was impossible and the man was an unworthy servant because he wasn’t moving the massive stone.

These thoughts discouraged and disheartened the man and he started to ease up in his efforts. “Why kill myself?” he thought. “I’ll just put in my time putting forth just the minimum of effort and that will be good enough.” And this he did or at least planned on doing until, one day, he decided to take his troubles to the Lord.

“Lord,” he said, “I have labored hard and long in Your service, putting forth all my strength to do that which You have asked of me. Yet after all this time, I have not even budged that rock even half a millimeter. What is wrong? Why am I failing?”

To this the Lord responded compassionately, “My friend, when long ago I asked you to serve Me and you accepted, I told you to push against the rock with all your strength and that you have done. But never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. At least not by yourself. Your task was to push. And now you come to Me, your strength spent, thinking that you have failed, ready to quit. But is this really so?

"Look at yourself. Your arms are strong and muscled; your back sinewed and brown. Your hands are calloused from constant pressure and your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown much and your ability now far surpasses that which you used to have. Yet still, you haven’t succeeded in moving the rock; and you come to Me now with a heavy heart and your strength spent.

I, my friend, will move the rock. Your calling was to be obedient and push, and to exercise your faith and trust in My wisdom, and this you have done.”

Now you might guess where this is going but I wanted to share something about experiences with companions while serving as a missionary. I was asked to work with some problem elders on my mission. I guess I was the babysitter, but I learned early in the mission that I needed to humble myself to have the spirit in my companionship. Without that, the work was frustrated and no one was having any fun.

Let me explain.

My MTC companion hated me. I don’t think I really knew why but guess he thought I was arrogant and proud, which I was. But he would not follow the rules. Stupid stuff like getting out of bed on time and getting to MTC church on time. Just little stuff like that. Not stuff that you get sent home for, but just enough to annoy everyone around you.

I had to learn to let go of some of my expectations for what I wanted my mission to be and learn to work together with someone that maybe I didn’t want to or didn’t agree with on many many fronts. It was hard.

Fast forward to Argentina when the mission president assigned me an elder that was so homesick he would barely work. “Work with him, Elder Newson.” I was told.

I learned to not get upset at the many breaks throughout the day that we would need to take because he was tired. Or the lack of companionship study we would do because of his unwillingness to participate. I could have been very upset with him as many of his previous companions had been and not gotten along and not had any success in our area. But from my MTC experience, I knew we had to have the spirit with us if we were going to have any chance of success.

So, I let go of some of the frustration and just loved him. It wasn’t easy. I started by shining his shoes. Something I had heard about growing up but was surprised no one did it or that no companion of mine really ever shined my shoes.

I started to encourage the breaks during the days in the hot sun and would stop for a drink or ice cream to make the break better. Slowly our companionship got better and my companion became more willing to do things he would never do like companionship study.

I stopped being constantly upset with him on the little things I thought he was falling short on. I stopped thinking of him dragging me down and stopped focusing on where I thought things were supposed to be or how my mission was supposed to be.

I realized that this is what the Savior does with each of us. He meets us where we are. He doesn’t chastise us for where we should be. Or get angry at us that we are not where he is. Or get frustrated that he has to “work” with us because we are not at his level. He loves us. He serves us. He loves and encourages our effort. He works with us on where we are at and he makes up the rest.

I became better for doing that with my companion and left the rest to the Lord. Like the story above. He can do more with the rocks/challenges/companions in our lives than we can. He requires trust, effort and work.

I hope this is helpful. And hope you find joy in the service of your mission. A lot of growth and change happened for me. Most of which was not easy. I loved my mission for what it did for me and how I was able to bless others. It wasn’t easy or everything I imagined it to be before I got there. But it turned out to be what I needed and what the Lord needed me to learn and become. His Disciple.

Our House is on the Market Again!

Our house is on the market again as of January 16th. Krissy White is our agent and we are impressed with her. Our house was listed as "Coming Soon" on January 9 and officially on the market one week later.

The 16th was also the day of the broker open house when other agents were invited to come and see.

On January 18, we were supposed to have a neighbor and friends open house. However, it was also the same day the frigid cold arrived in Colorado along with about 4 inches of snow. It was -1° in the morning and we opted to postpone the open house to another day.

The weather is a fickle thing and January is certainly not the ideal time to list a house, but we are confident with Krissy's skills and networking, that our house will be sold.

Frigid Blast of Cold

Much of the United States felt the effects of the frigid blast of cold air this weekend. Our temperatures dropped from the 50s to - degrees overnight. With that also came the snow.

Misha and I went out to shovel the driveway and the sidewalk. Misha was also kind enough to shovel the driveway for our next door neighbors who are in Vail for the long weekend.

There is always something satisfying to see the driveway and walkway totally dry. Plus, it is a pretty good workout. I spent about an hour clearing the sidewalk and entry to the house as well as the concrete in front of the garage.

It Is Well With My Soul

Kristen and her companion, Sister Emma Coleman, posted a short video clip on Facebook of them singing, "It Is Well With My Soul" (one of my favorite songs). What a treat to find it!

"Sometimes, we may feel like we're drowning. Like we're so far beneath the waves that no one could possibly reach us. We may feel like our "sorrows like sea billows roll." But, no matter what, we can find hope in Christ and His Atonement.

"Our sins are "nailed to the cross, and [we] bear [them] no more." Jesus Christ took them from us. We can feel peace, no matter how lost in the dark we feel. We can reach out to Him because He lived and died and lived again for us! If you want to find hope through Jesus Christ, message me🫶🏻🫶🏻"

Carpet Rake

Now this might not seem like a romantic gift to you, but it is certainly going to save me a lot of time...especially during the "Selling Our House" phase of life that we are in right now.

Chris got me this carpet rake for Christmas.

This handy dandy rake saves so much time in refreshing the carpet and erasing footprints prior to a showing.

Sunnyvale Ct - Closet Walk

The drywall is up and the second coat on the tape and seams is almost done (one more to go). Chris and I had a closet walk at the house on Friday. We talked about the design of all of our closets with the shelves and rods as well as the mantels/woodwork for the fireplaces.

We were excited to see the recent work being done. Just as excited to have a heated home to walk through on a cold winter day with lighting in some of the rooms.

These are a few pictures that Chris took for his records.

Dining Room

Kristen's Mission Email - Week 30

Hello people! Happy 7 months to me this week!

Hard to believe it's been so long already!! This one will be quick because I'm bored and need to buy groceries!
  • Crocheting frenzy
  • Baptisms w my buds!
  • Princess AND friends
I've discovered Spotlight, which is if Bed Bath & Beyond and Michael's had a baby. We got some yarn and I've been crocheting all week which is great for two reasons:

1) new sweater and
2) it keeps me off my phone. Win win!

Sister Woodbury and I (my flatmate) will sit and crochet and chat and I thoroughly enjoy that part of my day.

We got to go do baptisms at the temple this week with one of Sister Coleman's recent converts from her old area. It was great and I saw my faves, Sis Bradbeer and Sis Foote!!

Sister Bradbeer and Kristen

The spirit was so strong and I'm grateful to have a temple close to me.

Princess came to church again this week and brought her mom and brother! We will teach all of them this week and I love how willing she is to learn and grow. She's so golden.

My mom recommended I share what I do for my journaling. I've had some really low moments on the mission, but each day I record joy moments: 3 times I felt joy or gratitude that day. Then I have my spirit cameo—some point in the day where I felt or was guided by the Holy Ghost. And on those hard days, where I might have to find something silly I liked that day, or just say I felt the Spirit in my personal study, the point is finding joy and the Spirit in the midst of anxiety, turmoil, bad circumstances, and other people's agency.

I would recommend implementing some variation of this into your journaling, it honestly helps! Hope this week is awesome!

Love yous!!! Sis Kline

That's a huge accomplishment. Congratulations Mom and Dad!

Misha to Steamboat with Friends

Quick weekend in steamboat with friends. We stayed at a condo Airbnb and most everyone spent the days skiing or snowboarding. I was put on driver duty to take people to the mountain and otherwise we chilled and hung out around town.

Hiking in the Garden of the Gods

Chris and I stayed over in Colorado Springs on Friday after the closet walk to finish up a few things on Saturday. We got an early start with a hike at Garden of the Gods. It was pretty chilly and windy. While the sky was bright blue when we started, almost two hours later and the clouds had blown in.

After our hike:

Before our hike:

The Siamese Twin rock formations.

After the hike, we got some lunch and drove back to the house to do some measuring for the fireplace tv mount (see entry below) and to get some more pictures.

We stopped at IKEA on our way home. It is safe to say that a trip to IKEA with Chris is a whole different experience than with Kristen. Kristen and I can spend an hour and a half to two hours perusing. Chris and I were in and out in 30 minutes...and even that was probably too long for him. To be fair, there were a lot of people in the store on a Saturday afternoon.

Selling our House-Take Two

We have a great new realtor who is confident that she will get our house sold and quickly. Our property was listed as "Coming Soon" on Thursday, January 9. It won't be "on the market" until January 16 where we will start actively having showings, but in the Coming Soon stage, our realtor is able to start talking about the property and sharing it with her brokerage and contacts.

Our house was the featured house in the January 9th brokerage meeting and Krissy sent out an invite to 17,000 agents for the broker open house on January 16th. She will have treats, social media content available for agents, and a drawing for a stand up paddle board.

She has posted on Facebook and Instagram. The For Sale sign went up in front of our house on Thursday and on Saturday she door knocked all 37 houses on the Pelican Shores South and Pelican Shores North neighborhood to invite them to another open house for neighbors on the 16th. She has been busy and we are impressed. If you lived close by, I'd say come for the pastries that she has ordered!

New house photos (above) and the "Look Book" that she will give out at the broker open house.
