Spring Break 2018 - Day 2

It was a slow morning. We could hear Kevin up making pancakes for breakfast, but we didn’t feel rushed. Candace and Ashley weren’t getting back from camping until after 11 am and Linda was going to join us at Brazos Bend State Park—an alligator sanctuary and campground. I bet you would have not thought to put those two things in a park together!

We finished breakfast around 10 am, and after tidying up the kitchen, Chris, Misha, and I drove to Walmart to get some shorts for Misha and some snacks. She was missing her goldfish! We found a couple pair of shorts that would work for her.

Candace and Ashley were back from camping and were loading up the van when we returned. The State Park was about an hour and a half away. Kristen drove with cousins and Grandma joined us in our car. She got to listen to more Mike Rowe with us as we drove.

We stopped at this funky little gas station/deli outside of the State Park—Brazos Bend Home and Ranch—touting Hunt Brothers Pizza and Subs “made the quick way”. It wasn’t my first choice in food, but unless I wanted a can of beans, it would have to do.

Jeremy tripped in the parking lot and fell on his arm.  He sat with ice on his wrist during lunch.  One of the store employees even came out to check on him as we ate.

Since kids 12 and under were free to get in to the Alligator Park, we loaded up the back of our Camry with Ashley, Kristen, and Joseph. Misha and Grandma got in Kevin’s van because they paid by the car load. We enjoyed an afternoon of walking through the park, spotting alligators throughout. Except for an occasional eye blinking, we only saw one alligator that actually moved. Still, I’m not sure I would be staying in the campground unless it was surrounded by a high fence.

We stopped at a play place waiting for everyone to catch up and rested for a short time while the younger kids played. Two little boys were playing together not too far from us when one of the little boys plopped to the ground and wailed, “I just want you to like me.” The other little boy, trying his best to diffuse the situation and mostly just wanting to stop the little boy from crying so he didn’t get in trouble, replied back, “Well, then come over here and like me.” Wouldn’t it be nice if solving our problems were just that easy?

We enjoyed BBQ hamburgers and the fixin’s for dinner along with Peach Cobbler Dump Cake in a Dutch oven. It was yummy. As we enjoyed the nice evening, we listened to the dog next door and a dog walking by with its owner mimicking each other. It was amazing. Same number of barks, same inflection.
