Europe 2019 - Day 8

Amy woke up with a head cold today.  She was pretty disappointed to be sick.  Chris and I went through our travel meds and gathered up the Sudafed and other cold medicine for Amy.  Sadly, she spent the day in bed.

We were low on clean clothes today.  The hotel laundry we had planned to use had machines that weren’t functioning properly.  Chris and I gathered up a load of whites and a load of darks and set off to the nearest laundromat a mile away.  We had an Uber driver drop us off.

As we arrived at the laundromat, none of the machines were in use.  I asked a guy there if he spoke English and he shook his head “no”.  Chris tried to decipher the German and the pictures on the wall without much success.  The guy in the laundromat walked over to me with his phone and showed it to me and the sentence he had translated from German, “They say the machines are not working.”  Well, shoot.

There was another laundromat another mile even further, and so we just set off walking.  It was Sunday and most of the stores were closed. Vienna was a quiet place on a Sunday.  The next laundromat was much nicer, though it cost almost $25 to wash and dry two small loads of laundry.  The soap was preloaded in to the machine, so at least we didn’t have to worry about finding that, and an hour and a half later, we were driving in an Uber back to the hotel.

I worked on matching socks while we sat in the back seat of the Uber; Chris just laughed at me.

Before dropping off the laundry, Chris and I walked around the corner from the hotel to McDonald’s and bought some lunch.  Amy slept after eating lunch while Chris, Misha, Kristen, and I read the Come, Follow Me lesson for this week.  We really enjoy studying together.

We left Amy and Misha at the hotel, Misha opted for a rest day, and Chris, Kristen, and I explored Vienna with a little Rick Steve’s in our ears.  We saw St. Stephen’s church, ate ice cream, then enjoyed a chocolate mousse cake from Demel’s.  We sat in the Michaelerplatz to enjoy the view and the cake.

We jumped on to Tram #2.  Won’t lie, it was kind of nice to sit and sight see for awhile.  The Rick Steve’s tour we were doing required us to change from Tram #2 to #1 to complete the circuit.  We opted to look for some dinner instead and finish up the tour the next day.  Castilletos turned out to be a good choice. Too bad the other two had to miss out.  We did take a few leftovers home to them.

Before taking the bus back to our hotel, we sat on some stairs and listened to a trio perform under an arched gateway.  Not quite sure on our location.
