Gross Food in Mexico

Chris had some pretty disgusting food while in Mexico.

This was the conversation we had by text as he was served.

Jo: Are you seriously going to eat that?
Chris: When in Rome. Sure.
Jo: You’re not in Rome!
Chris: I did it! Now ant eggs

Jo: That is disgusting.
Jo: That’s like eating maggots.
Chris: Oh well. Not so bad
Jo: Do they not have any other food to eat?
Chris: Like ham and cheese larvae
There. I ate all three. Not too bad

The next day…
Chris: Must have had some bad water on veggies. Stomach not super happy.
Jo: That’s not fun. Maybe it was the crickets, ant eggs, and larvae. Hmmmmmmm…
Chris: They asked me about tongue tacos tonight. I passed.
Jo: Are they just trying to give you the grossest things possible?
Chris: Annnd I ate the tongue taco. It was ok
Jo: Disgusting.

Chris: Back to my room. Headed to bed. Upset stomach
Jo: No wonder.

The next next day…
Chris: Hi. Miserable night
Jo: Sorry. Throwing up?
Chris: No at least. Diarrhea and couldn't sleep. Super achy. Couldn’t regulate body temp at all. Freezing and then huge fever
Jo: Shoot. Do you have the flu? Food poisoning?
Chris: I don’t think flu. I think food. Seemed almost hallucinating at times
Jo: Not exactly a good gift of tongues!
Chris: Oh now you’re funny
Chris: Bugs me that I got sick when I’m so careful what I drink and washing hands
Jo: Well you can dork slap your self now.
Chris: I had Which Wich for lunch. Guessing it was the veggies. I don’t think it was the crazy food. Timing doesn’t match

Amy Celebrating Liz's Birthday

We don't always get a lot of pictures sent our way from Amy, but she did send a couple from Liz's birthday celebration.  I am so grateful these two have found each other.  Happy birthday Elizabeth.

Fire Pit at the Beach

We enjoyed our first beach night fire pit.  The weather was just perfect and it was early enough in the season that the mosquitoes were not out and bothersome yet.  We invited the families of the Elder's Quorum Presidency to join us. The s'mores were greatly appreciated by the kids.

David Adamson brought some fishing gear for his kids and they pulled in fish all night long.  After awhile, he gave them the pliers to remove the fish hooks on their own because they'd catch another fish as soon as he got settled around the fire.

We pretty much stunk of fire.

Waffle Orange Rolls

It so much easier to make these Pillsbury orange rolls in the waffle maker than in the oven.  Especially in the summer months when turning on the oven is just not desirable.  Four rolls can be cooked at a time in 1 1/2 minutes.  And they come out with a nice crunch to them.

Mormon Prom for Misha

Misha was asked to Mormon Prom by a young man in our ward - Anson Savage.  They went with Anson's brother Levi and his date Andra McKell as well as Misha' friends Megan Lewis and Dallin Lyon.  Everyone came to our house for pictures (along with parents because you gotta take pictures).  The sun was rather bright but at least it wasn't raining!

Anson and Levi's mom, Kirsten, made arrangements to have the boutonnieres and corsages made by a friend and then her sisters-in-law were catering a dinner for the group.  We took pictures for about an hour before the kids left for dinner.

Short Bus

Kristen went with a group from school to the Planetarium in Boulder.  We had to snap a picture of her by the mode of transportation for the afternoon.

Chris' First Bike Trip for 2018

Chris has been itching to get riding this Spring.  Perhaps the fact that he has a big ride coming up in a couple of weeks in Moab, plays in to that a little and feeling the need to get those bike seat muscles in shape!

Garden Update

I am excited to see that the spinach and peas are growing.  Yay.

Chris helped me get the sprinklers hooked up to the main box so that the garden will be watered on a regular schedule.  I installed drip lines in each of the garden boxes.  The flat stones in the garden are for helping me to reach into the garden box easier .

I found a guy on Craigslist to make me an extra garden box to my specifications for my raspberry plants.  I didn't want them in the main garden since they can sometimes take over the space they are in.

I have since planted strawberries, asparagus, four raspberry bushes, and carrots and according to my planting schedule, there's lots more going in during the month of May.  Here's hoping!

I want to add to climbing plants on either side of the trellis. I had hoped for a rose bush but haven't found one that I like yet. I might just put in clematis instead.

Birds and Bunnies

There is an overabundance of birds and bunnies around our house this year.  Birds especially.  It seems as they have multiplied since we first moved in four years ago.  And the birds like to stake their claim on nesting areas in the wreath on the front porch, in the gazebo at the beach, in the rafters of the deck, and on the heat vent by the laundry room.  Chris has had to evict a bird or two.

Kristen's Birthday Party

Kristen had a birthday party with friends this year.  She planned it, researched it, sent out invitations, and even made her own cake from scratch.  She only invited a few friends to join her on her adventure party at Gateway Park in Boulder.

Maggie McMillan, Brynlee and Kayla John, and Lauren Adams arrived on Saturday afternoon with beautifully packaged birthday gifts for Kristen.  As has been her tradition at all of her parties, Kristen had her guests hide the gifts throughout the house and then went on a hunt for the presents.  Her friends know Kristen well, giving her thoughtful Paris-themed gifts, jewelry, bath and lotion products, and nail polish.

Before leaving for Gateway Park, Kristen served her friends cake and lemonade since we would be dropping the girls off on the way home.  Kristen even created the happy birthday words out of chocolate.

While the girls played miniature golf, Chris kept score while I took pictures.  Let's just say these girls won't be going professional anytime soon.  Kristen and Lauren both won a free game of golf.

The group then headed over to the go-carts for a spin.  Kristen later bemoaned the fact that she lost, saying "I was pushing on the pedal as hard as I could and my car just wouldn't go any faster!"

The final activity for the afternoon was the maze.  The girls formed two teams and raced to find the letters M-A-Z-E throughout the maze.  It was definitely a fun afternoon.  I think Kristen can add successful birthday party planner to her list of accomplishments.  I keep telling her she should be a wedding planner when she grows up since she has so much fun working out all of the details.

Prom Hair

Misha and I did some pre-prom hair curling to make sure that was the hairstyle she wanted for the dance.  I think she has some pretty amazing hair curled or straight.

And of course you have to try on the dress to make sure it all looks greats together.
