Day 6-Murano and Burano

It seemed to take us awhile to get up and going each day. I was up by 8 am chatting a bit with Amy before she went to sleep--after midnight most days for her (she is such a night owl). I don’t know how she does it day after day.

We lost the mouth piece from the hydropack on Tuesday. Fortunately our hotel was right next to a Decathalon sporting goods store and Chris was able to find a replacement valve. Kristen’s headphone had broken the day before as well, so we just went next door to Megastore (like Best Buy) to find her new ones. We got breakfast and then started off toward Venice. Chris bought us a pass today for 20 euro each that allowed unlimited bus and vaporetto (boat) rides. We were planning to visit the islands of Murano and Burano today.

Murano, known for its blown glass, was our first stop for the day.  It was much smaller than Venice and a lot less crowded with tourists. We were squished on the vaporetto with many other tourists on our way to the island, but as we all fanned out once leaving the boat, we were able to enjoy a less crowded day on the islands perusing the shops for mementos.

One good photobomb deserves another.

We waited in line for the our next boat to Burano and everyone crowded on the boat once more.  Burano was famous for lace making. Our first encounter on the island however, was with a filming crew. We watched for a bit but nothing exciting was happening.

My two chicas.

Our crew was hungry so we stopped at Devil’s Pizza at 2:30 pm. Chris ordered one medium pizza for 6€ and we made quick work of it. So we ordered another. It was just what we needed. We had fun checking out the brightly-colored homes, taking pictures, watching the ladies make lace, and shopping. Misha and I bought some art here.

We had to stand most of the way back to Venice on the vaporetto. It was hot and tiring. Amy was waking up for the day so we chatted with her a bit. We got gelato first and then wandered awhile until we found an out of the way place for dinner.

Our return to the train/bus station was on the slow vaporetto along the main canal. I chatted with Amy while Chris listened to a Rick Steve’s podcast. We arrived after nine pm and many of the trains were stopped for the day. We had to change trains but finally made it back to the hotel. Whew, long day.
