Like the half a million other people trying to get tickets to tour the new Provo City Center Temple, we bombarded the site with our request and were unsuccessful the first time tickets were released. We were a little luckier the second time and Chris was able to hold times at 7 am on Friday morning or 8 am on Saturday morning. Ughh, neither were ideal since we would be coming from SLC an hour away. Chris tried one more time and was able to find tickets for 10:15 on Friday morning. It would mean a lot of driving for the day, but we all wanted the opportunity to see the new temple.
The weather wasn't terribly cooperative and weather reports suggested that roads were bad and the commute was slow. We tried to leave in plenty of time to get to the temple, and were pleasantly surprised with roads that were clear and fast-moving. We arrived in Provo 15 minutes before our scheduled time but decided to get in line anyway.
My sister, Susan, had thought to come down from Orem to see us, but since we arrived early, it was decided that she would catch us on our way out and before her family's 11:15 time slot.
I have fond memories of the former Provo Tabernacle (it was destroyed by fire). I attended Stake Conference there, had temple conference there, saw "The Forgotten Carols" there, and had my college graduation there. Now to see it as a temple was pretty impressive. The architecture was stunning as well as the woodwork and the attention to the littlest detail. It was all beautiful.
And we were able to meet up with my sister and her husband, my younger brother and his youngest son, and my parents. We chatted for a while before they had to get going on their tour. We headed out for lunch and then on to the Bountiful Temple for Julie's wedding.
