Our deck furniture was rather mobile with the last wind storm; I went outside after the wind had quieted and moved everything back to where it belonged. Fortunately the furniture just slid across the deck and was restored to order rather quickly.

We made a great decision in purchasing casement windows (the kind that crank open). The windows that are in the path of the window are actually blown more tightly shut instead of having dirt blow in to the window sills. That was a huge pet peeve in our last house. That's not to say we don't get some dust and dirt blown in to the house, just not nearly as much as we might. Beyond the standard insulation, we made the wise choice of having spray foam insulation also added to the exterior walls. It too makes such a difference. Our next door neighbor was at our house one day when the wind was blowing horrendously and commented on how quiet our house was. I am grateful for a weather-tight home, because I am NOT a fan of wind.
