Spring Break Day 7

Our last day in Texas.  No matter if the vacation was short or long, tempers and lack of patience seemed to appear on the last day.  Amy and Misha chose to stay at the hotel as Chris, Kristen, and I wanted to see more of the Alamo.  The scavenger hunt gave us a brief look at it, but not enough.  Our flight didn't leave until around 8 pm, so we had one last day to explore.

We walked along the Riverwalk this morning, able to find our way a little more easily...and take some pictures.  It was relatively quiet as it didn't seem to get too busy until lunch time.  Makes sense since the Riverwalk was lined with restaurants.

We enjoyed the Alamo, learning about the history, medicines of the time, and day to day life.  I was particularly impressed with the industry of the people.

Chris texted Amy and Misha that we were on our way back in the direction of the hotel where we would pass by and then continue on to the Mexican Market.  They decided to join us so we made a stop at the hotel to wait for them in the lobby.

The Mexican Market was bright and colorful and filled with pretty much the same kinds of touristy things from store to store.  We had fun looking around though...and trying on hats.  Though some shops had signs that said no trying on hats and taking pictures.  Why? (This shop did not have such a sign.)

Time to pack up at the hotel.  Chris and I wanted to see more of the missions in San Antonio before leaving.  Our girls were along for the ride.

Note to self.  Never run off from your girls and jokingly drive away.  One, they aren't paying attention enough to realize they should run after you; two, they don't think it is funny; three, one of them does not like being left and will be really angry; and four, they don't think it is funny.  Did I already mention that one?  Yeah.  It's true.  We're sorry.

Before their loser parents tried to play a joke and drove away from Mission Concepion:

After the loser parents came back:

We stopped at Mission San Jose next.

We drove out to New Braunfels from here.  No particular reason except that when we considered moving to Texas, we looked at New Braunfels as a potential location.  I was kind of glad that we stayed in Colorado.  We continued driving through New Braunfels into the district of Gruene (pronounced green, as in the color green).  It had a delightful historic district and antique stores.  It was fun to look at the antiques and remember our parents or grandparents having such items.  Some of you (Mom and Dad Rice) might still have a few such "antiques".

Our last stop before heading to the airport was to the temple.  Sadly, it was closed on Wednesday afternoon, having a limited operating schedule.

We dropped off our rental car and waited with another amazingly friendly Texan.  Our girls were a little testy with each other and he just joked about already raising three of his own.  As we checked in and dropped off our luggage at the airport, Amy may or may not have broken one of the kiosks.  She won't admit to it.

From here, we arrived at our gate and then said goodbye to Christopher.  He had a meeting in Dallas on Thursday.

As we arrived in Denver, I got off the airplane as quickly as possible in order to catch the shuttle out to Mt. Elbert to pick up the car.  I am not sure that it was any faster for me to go retrieve the car and return to the terminal to pick up the girls and our luggage or to have all gone together to Mt. Elbert.  Either way, we were happy to be on our way home, though sad to be missing warm weather and green grass.  Happy Spring Break y'all.
