Spring Tennis

Amy plays on the Mead Tennis Team once again.  When the school hired their latest math/calculus teacher, they also found that he had skills as a tennis player and coach.  There is a marked difference between this year and last year as far as the coaching goes.  Last year, the coaches had the girls practice strokes and play matches for their daily practices.  This year, Amy comes home wiped out and sore after each practice because Coach Holskins also has them do conditioning exercises in addition to practicing their tennis skills.  Yay Coach Holskins!  Practices are held Monday through Friday after school unless there is a match.

This was after her win last Monday.

Yesterday, Amy won her challenge match at practice and then Coach Holskins had the girls participate in "Indian Runs" and "Suicide Drills" (I did not choose the names).  An Indian Run is where the whole team runs the cross country trail in a single file line. The person in the back sprints to the front and they keep on doing that as every person takes their turning running with extra speed from the back to the front of the line--always running.  Suicide drills are high-intensity sprints from the starting line to a distant line, back to the starting line to an even further distant line and so on.  As a die-hard exercise fan, I wholeheartedly support Mr. Holskins.  One of the girls threw up.  Twice!

Until tennis is over, Amy has taken a bit of a hiatus from working during the week and only works on Saturday morning at the Rec Center.  Her bank account will take a hit, but she is enjoying tennis.
